Neverland Dragonfly Fairy
First, my apologies to Mike, I said I was gonna post this like... in July 2011?? It stayed on my desk and I never got - errr... took the time to do it until now. Sorry!
Background
I saw Mike DeBalfo's pencils of Zenescope's "Neverland" #5 and I thought it'd be a challenge to reproduce and to learn. A lot I learned indeed.
Production notes
- Crazy me decided it'd be awesome to draw those fairy wings realistically, which is, by design, Dragonfly wings.
- I noticed that other artists took liberties when rendering this character, so I shorten her hairs a little, got rid of the small cap and other tiny details.
I did researches and lemme tell you that Dragonfly wings are an amazing piece of engineering. I also researched the character (which I knew nothing of before I started) just to make sure I get it right.
This piece was quit beneficial:
- I am starting to be more steady when doing long curved lines
- Hair are less mysterious dark magic
- Been able to draw some extremely tiny lines & details
- Better understanding of character sheets
- It may be pencil, but filling with 5B lead and making lines darker feels like inking. (maybe I should give it a shot for real)
"A finished piece is better than an unfinished one"
I hope you'll like it!
Enjoy!
P.S.: I wonder if people ever read descriptions...
